Kievskaya Interchange Hub in Moscow close to completion
We are delighted to announce that construction works in the area of Kievskaya Interchange Hub, project of Moscow Department of Transport (DOT) in partnership with MIC-HUB Moscow, WowHaus and KB23, are close to completion.
Kievskaya is one of the nine railway stations in Moscow and a major interchange hub, where the long-distance and commuter trains, 3 metro stations and 18 surface public transport routes meet together with an overall passenger flow of about 400.000 people daily.
Given the complexity of the existing scheme caused by the disorganization and intersection of various transport and pedestrian flows, a new vision for the area was focusing on 3 main topics:
1. Elaboration of the strategies for private transport and taxi access, including dedicated drop-off and parking areas;
2. Surface public transport routes and stops optimization, taking into account not only the node itself but also looking at the wider context, reorganization of bus parking layout;
3. Enhancement of the pedestrian connectivity within the interchange area and minimization of the conflicts with transport.
The new mobility scheme aims to minimize potential conflicts between vehicular and pedestrian flows due to organization of the areas dedicated to each transport mode (public transport, cars, taxi) with a particular focus on the space quality and pedestrian experience. Road network is designed to ensure the most intuitive and comfortable circulation pattern for all users. A significant part of the bus routes passing through Kievskaya will be served by electric buses, with the support of several charging points installed on the square.
In several months after construction the area has radically changed not only visually but also has acquired a fundamentally new transport scheme, designed to increase the number of passengers of the surface transport by 1.5 times.
In addition to the new road markings and contemporary canopies aiming to protect passengers from adverse weather conditions, the second stage of work within the area implies further landscape organization, introduction of pavilions with heating, electric city bike and scooter rental stations as well as branded navigation system for the whole area.
Being a key element of the city tissue, Kievskaya Interchange Hub is also a generator of urban transformation process aimed at significantly improving the quality of the nearby districts and urban environment on the city scale.
