Several roads converge on Piazzale Loreto, and in the 1960s, with the arrival of mass motorization what was once a Milanese public space became a large traffic-dominated intersection, impenetrable to pedestrian and bicycle mobility, a huge crossroads with no public life. Piazzale Loreto is still a space that denies any form of urbanity.

The LOC Loreto Open Community project aims to profoundly reconfigure the role of the automobile by drastically reducing the area occupied by traffic, a process that allows 10,000 square meters of public space connected to the city to emerge through a dense network of new bicycle and pedestrian paths.
