Humanitas Istituto Clinico Catanese
Catania
The project involved the carrying out of road works relating to the new access roads to the Humanitas Istituto Clinico Catanese hospital complex.
Well integrated into the rural landscape and just 15 minutes from Fontanarossa airport, the new hospital complex was built in an area with no major road infrastructure. It was therefore necessary to provide the hospital with a new road network to ensure accessibility to diverse vehicle categories: cars, public transport, service vehicles and emergency vehicles (fire brigade and ambulances).

Our contribution
The project focuses on the construction of a roundabout intersection at the vehicle access point of the new hospital complex; the aim was to safeguard the current road configuration and the surrounding landscape as much as possible.
The MIC-HUB project saw the construction of a roundabout intersection, with four arms and a central island that cannot be surmounted, at the vehicle access point of the new hospital complex.
The generous dimensions of the new roundabout made it possible to incorporate space into the geometries for the future cycle system.
A flow study allowed the creation of separate accesses to ensure greater safety for users. Public transport, public roads and private roads are divided according to the type of traffic envisaged.
