The first section of Cagliari’s seafront reopens after completion of works

The first section of Cagliari’s seafront reopened at the end of January after construction work on a new road layout, which prioritises sustainable mobility and introduces a pedestrian area and playgrounds.

The project for the renovation of Via Roma, one of Cagliari’s most characteristic streets, envisages the renovated promenade becoming an element of social integration, linking the seafront, the city centre and the main public facilities, thereby enhancing the entire area from a cultural, social and environmental point of view.

The new green promenade will be a connecting axis, defined by a sustainable mobility strategy, with pedestrianised, continuous public space, characterised by green areas, playgrounds and rest areas, which will give a fresh urban quality to the seafront.

The masterplan foresees the implementation of sustainable mobility based on principles of proximity and pedestrianization; a network of paths connecting and animating all the green areas and restoring the city’s relationship with the sea.

The project is designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti, MATE Società Cooperativa, MIC-HUB, StudioSilva, S.T.P, and the archaeologist Demis Massimiliano Murgia.
